Think and Write Together Activity
In a group
of four or five classmates, read the following passage aloud. Then follow the
directions below.
Creative
risk takers are often achievers who tend to start their own businesses or
become leaders in some other way.
Researchers have identified two different types of home environments
that tend to produce creative risk takers: (1) “high expectation families” that
enthusiastically support the child and expect great things from him or her and
(2) very poor, alcoholic, or broken homes where the child receives almost no
support and few positive expectations.
Directions:
1.) Analyze possible reasons why
households of the second type tend to produce creative risk takers. Write down your three best reasons.
2.) Peruse the following sites to add to
your perspectives.
3.) Write a group cause and effect
paragraph relating to this subject. Base
your paragraph on your group’s discussion, perspectives and findings.
4.) Post your paragraph onto the blog,
with your names.
Many times you hear about very successful people coming from broken homes and poor backgrounds. This is because when people come from homes with no support, love, or money, they want to do better for themselves. Eventually, when they have their own families, they don’t want their kids to go through what they went through during their childhood. People coming from nothing know how to spend the money they earn and therefore become more successful. Also, people who start at the bottom, usually work much harder than people who are already at the top because that’s where they want to be. They are more open-minded to new ideas because they’ve experienced it all and they know what it takes to be a powerful leader. Successful people who came from a home with no support tend to be more compassionate about what they do and more supportive of people on their way to success because they know how much it helps. As you can see, it is not how much wealth you have growing up that determines how successful you will be later in life.

DeleteCreative risk takers are ones who are known to start their own businesses and become leaders in the world. However, the roots of some of these leaders may be startling. Some of these prominent leaders in innovation come from broken homes. They come from parents who do not have a lot of money and who deal with drug problems. These family problems give these future leaders the motivation to succeed and to have a better life later on. Many of these leaders from broken homes are used to taking an initiative to help their family. They probably held lots of jobs when they were younger to pay the bills while also working hard in school and helping their parents cope with their drug problems. They, in a sense, lead their families. Through their unfortunate experiences, they learned the values of how to make wise decisions, to be honest through communication, and to be persuasive to get their beliefs across. They carried these values and many more into college and later on into their professional lives which helped them achieve success to the greatest extent. Their will to achieve is so much greater than that of a person who has been given the normal amenities that any teen should receive. Every fiber in their body is aimed at giving their children a better life, a better childhood, than the one they had. They want to make every effort to forget about their past in order to build a new and happy future.

DeleteHouseholds that are broken/ struggling tend to produce creative risk takers. These people most likely will become leaders or run huge businesses. They are successful even though they came from almost nothing because they are driven to better their lives. This is a motivating factor to gain power and achieve what they never had before. Another big reason why these types of families create risk takers is because they have nothing to lose; therefore they want to take a chance for success. The worst case scenario of them not being successful is that they would just return back to where they came from. Some start huge businesses hoping that it will bring prosperity so they can support their families. Others may become leaders since they know what it is like to suffer, so they can outreach to people who are going through difficult times, just like they did. A good trait for a leader is having shared actions and visions, which means that in order to have business gains, managers need to know what is needed to find a solution. Leaders that came from bad families often notice these problems and come up with ways to find answers/solutions.

ReplyDeleteMany successful people come from loving, supportive homes, however, when children are not supported by their family, it creates a need for acceptance by others. They work hard throughout their lives to become successful and gain the respect and praise from people outside of their family. Adults also learn from their experiences in childhood. After seeing the lives that their parents lead, they learn to make better decisions for themselves as they grow up, and their decision making skills carry into their adult careers. Similarly, they see the poor decisions their parents have made, yearn to break out of a life of poverty and neglect, and in turn work hard to create better lives for their future families. They also grew up with few economic and emotional resources, and learned how to use economic resources responsibly and nurture healthy emotional relationships with coworkers. They also show great humility; after living in a home that at times may have oppressed them, they will then tend to work hard to make coworkers and peers feel that their voices are heard and that they have power in the workplace.

DeleteHave you ever truly wondered about what actually happened to the dinosaurs? Well, bring it back to 65 million years ago and we will go on the journey of where the story began. There were 3 main causes that contributed to wiping out all the dinosaurs. According to Dr. Ward of the University of Washington, the first cause was simply background extinction. It is the normal disappearance of some animals and plants that goes on all the time. The second cause is the drop in sea level. This caused 25 percent more species to become extinct. The last and final cause was the giant comet striking the earth. This comet was no joke it was the size of all of Manhattan. It was found in 1991 near the Yucatan Peninsula. This comet was the final factor of the destruction of dinosaurs and others. Dr. Ward now proves that ash and rare metal circled the globe.

DeleteCreative Risk takers have impeccable leadership qualities that help them succeed. As a group, we believe that the type two households produce more creative risk takers due to the fact that they have confidence within themselves. Growing up in a broken family must leave a child feeling lonely at times. It may be sad, but the truth is that they learn how to depend on themselves and believe in themselves. In order to be a successful business owner or leader one must have confidence within themselves. If an entrepreneur doesn’t believe in his product, how can he sell his product? The answer is that he will not be able to sell his product. The confidence that builds in the children that grow up in a type two household is a major contributor to their success. Another result of growing up in a broken household is the desire to have control over the situation. While growing up, things were probably happening that were out the the person’s control, and so they now have a desire to be in control, and this transcends to their business life. Someone from this situation would now desire to be his/her own boss and run things according to their liking. This way, they can be an effective leader in their business. Additionally, someone from a broken home faced many challenges that were stacked against them during their upbringing. Because of the difficulty caused by poverty, alcohol, or drugs in the home, one who is accustomed to this is more likely to be flexible and adaptable to their surroundings and changing business world. The experience and hardship that these children endure allow for the creation of great leadership skills that will help them succeed in life.

DeleteThe house of the second type may produce more creative risk takers because they have nothing to lose so they may take more chances. They may spend more time alone than others so they think about the risks they are going to take. They come from homes where they don’t get much help so they natural competitors and have a certain drive. These people hold themselves accountable because they are accustomed to taking responsibility for their own actions. Typically people that make their own decisions know their limits and know how far to push themselves as far as decisions go. They know how to turn nothing into something using the little resources they have.

DeleteIt is strange to think that those with desirable leadership qualities can come from a dysfunctional household that is seemingly unhealthy for a child’s development. However, it is because of this misfortune that they developed leadership characteristics and excelled above the rest of their peers. Since there is almost no attention and praise in such a household, the children exposed to these conditions will seek to excel and achieve greatness later in life in order to obtain the attention they did not receive as a child. And in order to achieve such greatness they need to be disciplined and set on achieving their goals. After many years of being ignored because of dysfunctional parents, the children have become disciplined and independent far before the normal child would. While the prior reasons significantly contribute to the development of a leader, the most important cause is the desire to escape the life they had as a child. They have seen firsthand the chaos and trauma of a dysfunctional household and wish to prevent their own children from experiencing such a lifestyle. This propels them and motivates them to work hard and rise above their competition.

ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons that can make a person to want to be successful. People who come from very poor, alcoholic, or broken homes have gone through many tragic experiences that they don’t want to relive. Therefore they wouldn’t want to follow the same cycle; they would want success for themselves and their families. Good leaders have many characteristics such as being respectful, caring and compassionate. People in these situations have perseverance because they want to set a better example for their children. They would most likely want to start a new life for themselves as well. In some cases they want to show that just because you come from a broken household doesn’t mean you can’t be successful, they will want to set a new example for people who are currently in their situation. Leaders are people who inspire others to achieve their goals and teach people that you can overcome your struggles.

DeleteThose who grow up in broken homes and have poorer backgrounds tend to be creative risk takers. This causes them to become very successful in life and rise out of the poverty they grew up in. They are creative risk takes because they see what life is like when you are not successful. This is a motivating factor for them to make sure they do not live in poverty for their entire life. Another season is that growing up in hardship cause them to know how to overcome adversity. They constantly have to break through the obstacles that have been placed in front of them. By growing up in broken homes they are able to see what their parents’ decisions caused and are less likely to repeat those decisions. They want to make sure that they give their children a better life than what they had growing up. People who come from broken homes also very focused and motivated in achieving their goals. They know what the cost of failure will bring them, and they know that failure is something they can’t afford.

ReplyDeleteThere are two types of people in this world: analytic and creative, and everybody in these groups wants to reach their full potential. We want to meet our expectations, achieve our goals, and create exciting experiences. But if they are stuck in a home that isn't well supported, that is really hard to establish. If they can’t achieve their full potential doing what others do best, they have to find another way to do it. These creative risk takers learn to adapt and believe in themselves. After that, they have the confidence to accomplish what most analytic people can’t.
